U.S. economy loses momentum

Real gross domestic product -- the inflation-adjusted, seasonally adjusted value of all goods and services produced in the United States -- rose at a 2.4 percent annualized rate in the second quarter, well below the average 4.4 percent increase over the last six months. (8:54AM)

Misericordia names new dean of College of Arts and Sciences

Misericordia University has named Russ Pottle, Ph.D., as the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Pottle comes to Misericordia from Regis College in Weston, Mass., where he was the founding dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Liberal Arts, Education, and Social Sciences. Survey says: Home-ownership has lost its luster

According to the National Apartment Association (NAA), renting a home now trumps home ownership. A recent survey showed 75 percent of more than 2,100 consumers polled agree that renting is best right now, up five percentage points from 2008. The NAA sees unemployment, which continues to hover around 9 percent, together with financing challenges as some of the factors supporting that conclusion. (read more)

Moses Taylor Hospital will transfer ownership of its hospital-based Skilled Nursing Facility to Senior Health Solutions, LLC, effective Aug. 1. The Clay Avenue skilled nursing facility will now be called Evergreen Health Care Center LLC. (read more)
