Wally Lake Fest packed with events

Wally Lake Fest is a week-end long festival that features events located throughout the Lake Region, including the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center, downtown Hawley, the new Lake Wallenpaupack Nature Trail, area businesses and, of course, the lake. Some of the planned events include:

  • Boat, watercraft and ATV show:
    Wallenpaupack Area High School, Saturday, Aug. 28, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Browse through boats, watercraft and ATVs. Rusty Palmer, 1st Klas Marina, Landis Marina, Lighthouse Harbor Marina and Seaman’s Marina will have products on display. The event is free.
  • Boat Parade:
    Lake Wallenpaupack, Saturday, Aug 28. Registration 10 a.m. to noon. Parade at 2 p.m., winners announced at 4 p.m. The boat parade celebrates fun and safety on Lake Wallenpaupack. The parade  ends in front of the Tafton Dike judge’s platform. Rain Date: Sunday Aug 29.  Call (570) 226-2141.
  • Outdoor Adventure:
    PPL Dam Tours, PPL Environmental Learning Center, Saturday, Aug 28, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guided tours of the Wallenpaupack Dam will run continuously throughout the day. (570) 253-7076. The event is free.
  • Learn to Kayak
    Demonstrations by Alice’s Wonderland, Saturday, Aug 28, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On the shoreline in front of the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center. (570) 226-4251. The event is free.
  • Sailboat Rides:
    Wilsonville Marina, Saturday, Aug. 28, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sponsored by the Paupack Sailing Club, Pocono School of Sailing.  The event is free. Call (570) 857-9050.
  • Go Fly A Kite & Lemonade Stand:
    Palmyra Township Beach, Saturday, Aug. 28 and Sunday, Aug. 29, from  10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Kite flying at the township beach. Bring your own or fly one of ours. No charge to fly a kite. Small fee to swim. (570) 226-9290.
  • Free souvenir photo:
    Wallenpaupack Scenic Boat Tour, Saturday, Aug. 28. Take a tour of the lake and receive a free souvenir photo. Tours daily noon to 6 p.m. Free photo on Saturday, from noon to 3 p.m. Regular tour prices apply. Call (570) 226-3293.
  • “Closest to Wally” Golf Driving Challenge:
    Costa’s Family Fun Park, Route 6, Sunday, Aug. 29, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Take your free shot at getting closest to the flag (Wally) and have a chance to win great prizes. (570) 226-8585.
  • Tour de Towpath:
    Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center, sponsored by Northeast Wilderness Experience, Sunday at 10 a.m. Take a bike ride that starts at the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center and heads down to the Lackawaxen River. Shuttle service will be provided for a one-way trip. Pricing: bike rental and shuttle $35 per person, shuttle only $10 per person. Pack a lunch. For more information, call (570) 729-1700.
  • On Saturday, treat yourself to an Ice Cream Social & Live Marching Band performance from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Hawley. Stroll through the streets for an evening of shopping, dining and theater in Hawley from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Miss Elly’s Antiques and The Village Bath are offering 15 percent off for Wally Lake Fest guests.
  • Listen to the Sounds of Summer, performing from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Artisan Picture Framing and Art Gallery, 204 Main Avenue. Then head back to the lake to hear live music by the Ronnie Williams Duo at Gresham’s Chop House, from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Call (570) 226-1500 or stop at Ehrhardt’s Pub to hear Raw Sugar from 8 p.m. until midnight.
