Moses Taylor Hospital will transfer ownership of its hospital-based Skilled Nursing Facility to Senior Health Solutions, LLC, effective Aug. 1. The Clay Avenue skilled nursing facility will now be called Evergreen Health Care Center LLC.
“Moses Taylor Hospital has a long history of providing quality health-care services to residents and patients requiring Skilled Nursing care. Our decision to sell the facility to Senior Health Solutions is part of our strategic plan which includes consolidating service lines that operate more efficiently outside of the Hospital,” said Karen M. Murphy, RN, PhD, president and CEO of the Moses Taylor Health Care System. “We are very happy that many of our employees from the Moses Taylor Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility were offered and have accepted positions with Senior Health Solutions,” added Dr. Murphy.
The Moses Taylor Hospital Facility provided services to a mixture of long-term residents and short-term patients. The care provided to the residents and patients will not be disrupted as Evergreen takes operational control. Patients who choose to remain with the facility are welcome to do so and their doctors will be granted the same privileges that they had when Moses Taylor was running the facility.
“We are pleased to acquire such a well-known, quality operation,” said Michael P. Kelly, president of Senior Health Solutions. He added, “Moses Taylor Hospital is a high quality organization and was a pioneer in the establishment of facilities dedicated to long-term care in the mid-1960s. We are confident that we will continue this tradition while also providing our future residents with unique benefits in long-term care in a new location. This agreement also allows us to grow our base of skilled nursing and rehabilitative services resulting in economic growth in Scranton and its surrounding communities.”
Moses Taylor Hospital and Senior Health Solutions will enter a 15-month lease agreement to continue operations at the Clay Avenue facility. For the future, Evergreen plans to construct a 60-bed assisted living facility adjacent to its Green Ridge Health Care Center located on Boulevard Avenue. When construction is complete, they will then move the residents of the Moses Taylor facility and the Scranton Manor Assisted Living Center, another Evergreen facility located on Jefferson Avenue, to the new building.
At present, the hospital does not have any immediate plans for the former Skilled Nursing Facility once it is vacated in 2011. “We will assess our options to expand existing service lines or add new ones at that time,” said Dr. Murphy.
