State Rep. Phyllis Mundy (D-Luzerne) announced Nov. 16 that West Wyoming Borough will be awarded $241,114 in funding through the Pennsylvania Conservation Works! Grant program.
The program, made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of the 2009 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program, assists local governments and nonprofits in funding renewable energy-efficiency projects that result in a minimum of 25 percent conservation of all energy used.
"This grant will help the borough implement energy conservation measures to help lower operating costs and save local tax dollars through the use of alternative-energy technologies," Mundy said. "It also will help to create jobs and spur economic growth and community development."
Under the program, grants of up to $250,000 are available for eligible renewable energy conservation projects that include: energy-efficient indoor and outdoor lighting; upgrades at wastewater treatment plants; installation of geothermal heat pumps; and renewable energy technologies on government buildings including solar energy, wind energy, fuel cells, biomass, biogas and low-impact hydro. All projects must be completed within 18 months and prior to Sept. 30, 2011.
More information about the program is available online at www.depweb.state.pa.us.
