In an effort to encourage its 70,000 members served by 22 branch locations across the U.S. to help reduce the costs and environmental impact of paper statements and other conventional banking services, Corporate America Family Credit Union has introduced the “Pay It Green” promotion. The credit union is teaming with PayItGreen to promote paperless services and the Arbor Day Foundation to plant new trees. Corporate America has committed to planting one tree for each member who signs up and begins using e-Statements instead of having monthly paper statements mailed to them.
“Consumers are increasingly comfortable having their paychecks deposited electronically, viewing their account balances on their personal computer or mobile device, and paying their monthly utility bills and other standard payments online,” said Corporate America’s Director of Sales and Marketing La Trease Cunningham. “We just want them to know they can do all of those things – and more – through accounts set up at their local credit union.”
According to the not-for-profit financial institution’s micro-site reducing the amount of traditional mail sent each month will not only save trees but also cut carbon emissions and significantly reduce the amount of polluted water generated in the process.
“Every action we take can make a difference, especially when we’re talking about the environment,” said Cunningham, who has a goal to plant up to 10,000 trees through the effort. “So if we all tried to make a difference, just think about the positive impact we could make together.”
