Atty. Matt Rogers is an associate attorney and licensed patent attorney who aid clients in protecting and enforcing their legal rights in regard to intellectual property. In addition, he gives advice and assists clients with the decisions, strategies and disputes they encounter in both the for-profit and nonprofit worlds.
“Achieving a solution that is consistent with my client’s goals is my primary responsibility” he said.
With the exception of a few prodigies, Rogers believes everyone stumbles a bit at the start of their career. It takes a tremendous amount of time, experience, stress and setbacks to excel.
“You might be surprised at how many quit along the way. Even after several years, I am still at the beginning of this process,” he said. “But those I know who do impressive work insist perseverance is a rare commodity,” he said.
He grew up in Vienna, W.Va., and was a chemistry major in college. He dreamed of becoming a doctor. However, after spending some time in a hospital shadowing a physician, he quickly realized medicine was not for him.
A business professor suggested he go to law school. With his background in science, he could specialize in intellectual property law and assist inventors, scientists, artists, and marketers protecting their ideas. His favorite moments are those spent with inventors and artists talking about their creations. “Innovation, or the lack thereof, is something you read a lot about today. I am sure we could use much more of it, but people have really astonished me with what they’ve been able to create and the problems they’ve solved.”
Atty. Rogers is a member of Leadership Wilkes-Barre Class of 2011 and the director of the Fine Arts Fiesta. Rogers has so many mentors that they are too many to name. He is married to Melanie Shepherd and they have a son, Thomas, who is 11 months old.
