Atty. Marianne J. Gilmartin believes women should have the ability to support themselves financially. That’s one reason she decided to become a lawyer.
She is one of six children born to Henry and Louise Menapace, parents who provided her with the opportunity to attain a college education and attend law school. Gilmartin holds a J.D., cum laude, from Seton Hall University and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Marywood University. She was a recipient of the Seton Hall Alumna Award for demonstrating outstanding ability as a clinical practitioner.
Gilmartin focuses her practice on litigation issues in construction, banking, insurance, and on complex commercial and catastrophic casualty litigation in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
She is board-certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a civil trial advocate and is one of just a few attorneys in the country to hold a “Green Advantage” certification in environmentally friendly construction practices.
She is also board certified as a trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. She was named a 2009 and 2010 Pennsylvania Super Lawyer.
She speaks at numerous continuing education forums, and is an active member of the International Association of Defense Counsel; the Northeastern Pa. Trial Lawyers Association; and the National Association of Women Business Owners, where she serves as public policy chair. She is president of the Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of Professional Women in Construction. She also serves as a construction neutral arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. She is a current member of the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, American and Federal Bar Associations and on the board of Habitat For Humanity.
She resides in Moscow, with her husband, Frank, and their four sons. Family time is her predominant leisure activity, and she and her husband are Cub Scout den leaders. She also serves on the St. Catherine of Siena Finance Council.
“Work hard, don’t compromise your values and never grow too comfortable with your position. Keep pushing yourself and stay true to your personality,” she said, adding that compassion, appreciation and humility never hurt.
