Family Service Association of Wyoming Valley celebrates 115 years

Michael Zimmerman, executive director of the Family Service Association of Wyoming Valley (FSAWV), invites the community to come out and celebrate 115years of service to families at FSAWV's annual meeting on Monday, Sept. 13 at noon at the East Mountain Inn in Wilkes-Barre.

Reservations are required along with a donation of $25 per person to cover the cost of the luncheon.

Each year the Family Service Association board of directors and trustees honors outstanding community leaders for their dedication and leadership for their work onbehalf of children, individuals and families.

Ruth Kemmerer will receive the Community Leadership award for her work on behalf of children, families and the community. Ms. Kemmerer served as a volunteer for 14 years on the Friends of Family Service Committee and the FSAWV board of directors before accepting the position as director of resource development and volunteer services at FSAWV.

Ms. Kemmerer will be honored for her work in the community which spans 29 years, including work with the Arthritis Foundation of NEPA and volunteer effortswith the Non-Profit Committee of the Wilkes Barre Chamber of Commerce, Second Time Around Grandparent’s Support Group, the IOOF and Rebekahs, and the West Pittston Lions Club. She was a founding member of and helped establish the Pocono-Northeast Chapter of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals and was awarded the National Society of Fund Raising Professionals Fund Raiser of the Year Award in 2000.

Also honored at the luncheon will be Atty. Martin Meyer. Mr. Meyer will  receive the Al Danoff Humanitarian award. Al Danoff was a long-time member of the FSAWV Trustees and served the community with his support of the mission of FSAWV and served on the FSAWV board of directors and trustees for many years.

This honor is awarded to a volunteer who has exemplified outstanding humanitarianism. His volunteer humanitarian efforts include serving as chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Drive, co-chairman of the March of Dimes, board of directors of the Jewish Home (Scranton), board of directors of Temple Israel, and president of B’nai B’rith Lodge 139.
